    Description

The Thermo Neptune Plus MC-ICP-MS combines a plasma sample introduction system with a high resolution mass spectrometer that has the capability to separate polyatomic intereferences from the analyte of interest to produce precise and accurate isotope ratios. Currently the Neptune is capable of high throughput analyses of Li, Mg, Ca, Fe, Cu, and U isotopes. In addition the high ionization efficiency in the plasma torch allows for analyses of non-traditional isotopes, e.g., Mg. In solution, purification of the element of interest is completed using ion chromatography. Purification using ion chromatography is a critical step in isotope analyses using the MC-ICP-MS, since possible interferences are removed allowing for accurate determination of isotope ratios. Our capabilities include determination of Li, Mg, Ca, Fe, Cu, and Sr isotopic composition of liquid samples.
