The Division of Trauma, Acute Care and Critical Care Surgery, part of the Department of Surgery at Penn State College of Medicine, meets the emergency medical and surgical needs for more than 1 million people in central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is the only Level I Trauma Center for both the adult and pediatric population in the area. The critical care surgery arm provides post-injury or major surgery care in a 30-bed surgical intensive care unit, and the acute care surgery practice meets the needs of patients requiring emergency general surgery, as well as follow-up after surgery.
