Since joining the Penn State College of Medicine faculty in 1998, Dr. Chris Fan has been principal investigator or co-investigator of several clinical trials. Most recently, he was the principal investigator of a glycemic control initiative in non-critically ill hospitalized diabetic patients.
Dr. Chris Fan is the director of the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The two-year clinical fellowship accepts two applicants per year, so there are four fellows at any given time. The curriculum includes inpatient and outpatient direct patient care as well as didactic conferences. All fellows are required to do a quality improvement project and a research project, but the emphasis is on clinical training. Dr. Fan has mentored a number of endocrine fellows on both research and quality improvement projects, primarily involving diabetes.
Dr. Fan further assists in setting up the endocrine clinic rotations for residents, both inside and outside the institution, and gives medical student lectures.
Dr. Chris Fan is a general clinical endocrinologist with extensive experience as a clinic director. He was the practice site director for the endocrinology and nephrology clinics at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from 2001 to 2016.
Dr. Fan sees patients with a wide variety of endocrine disorders. He has attended meetings of the Thyroid Cancer Survivor Group in Hershey to both receive and give knowledge, and was featured on a local ABC news segment dedicated to thyroid cancer in 2017. Dr. Fan has given numerous talks at the annual Diabetes Symposium in Hershey.
