Research interests
Dr. Daniel Schlegel’s research interests are varied. He has published research on interpersonal communication within residency programs as well as an “escape room” developed to assess communication and teamwork skills among residency applicants. He has been involved in the AMA’s “Reimaging Residency” grant, with a focus on applying Design Thinking principles to enhance Systems-Based Practice education. He is also interested in studying the impact of telehealth on patient care. Dr. Schlegel completed the Penn State College of Medicine Junior Faculty Development Program in 2009.
Teaching and educational interests
Dr. Daniel Schlegel has extensive experience in residency education from years of teaching as an outpatient preceptor. He also served as Program Director for Penn State Health’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Hershey. In that role, he developed innovative approaches to teaching as well as assessment and evaluation of residents and faculty. He has taught medical students in ambulatory settings as well as in lectures. He has been a lecturer and small group facilitator with Penn State College of Medicine’s Health Systems Science curriculum. He enjoys sharing what he learned through his Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration with medical students and residents.
Clinical interests
Dr. Daniel Schlegel practices family medicine, with a focus on outpatient management of adults and children. He is also interested in how telemedicine can be utilized to expand access to medical care for populations that lack access to medical care.
