Clinical interests
Dr. Gary Updegrove's clinical practice focuses on reconstruction of degenerative conditions or traumatic injuries of the shoulder and elbow. He specializes in upper extremity surgery, including anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, elbow replacements, complex fracture management, repair of fracture nonunions and rotator cuff repair, as well as shoulder and elbow arthroscopy.
Research interests
Dr. Gary Updegrove’s research focuses on shoulder and elbow surgery, including clinical outcomes. He is involved with numerous research projects studying shoulder arthroplasty as well as rotator cuff and elbow procedures.
Teaching and educational interests
Dr. Gary Updegrove is actively involved in the education of residents and medical students. He is a member of the curriculum committee for Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center's Orthopaedic Surgery Residency and manages resident training in shoulder and elbow surgery. He is also involved in medical student education about the musculoskeletal system.
