Research interests

Dr. Jane Schubart’s research interests focus on the investigation of health outcomes after surgery. Dr. Schubart is especially interested in complex or chronic illness and, since 2015, has worked on worked on research projects related to the heritable disorders of connective tissue, including the Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes. She has published a number of manuscripts related to recent work utilizing a data repository resulting from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) cohort study “Clinical and Molecular Manifestations of Heritable Disorders of Connective Tissue”, 2001-2013.

Funding for her work has come from NIH, Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), American Cancer Society, Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Penn State College of Medicine's Grace Woodward Grant, University of Indiana School of Medicine, Bruhn-Morris Family Foundation, American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Spinal Injury Association, Paralyzed Veterans Association, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, National Board of Medical Examiners, and various philanthropic sources. 

Teaching and educational interests

Dr. Jane Schubart is a member of the Pennsylvania State University Graduate Faculty. She has taught graduate level course in Public Health Sciences including Quality of Care Measurement, Advanced Public Health Policy Analysis, Health Services Organization and Delivery, and Individual Studies in the MS, MPH, and DrPH programs. Within the College of Medicine, Dr. Schubart is a member of the Medical Student Research Committee and has been active in mentoring medical students, as well as residents, and junior faculty each year in a wide range of research projects. At the faculty level, Dr. Schubart has also served as a mentor for participants in the nationally recognized Junior Faculty Development Program at the College of Medicine, and periodically teaches introductory and refresher biostatistics short courses and seminars for clinicians.
