Research interests
Dr. Kofi Clarke's research interests include novel therapies for inflammatory bowel disease and investigating clinical predictors of complications of inflammatory bowel disease. He is a principal investigator for multicenter sponsored trials investigating the role of several new molecules in patients with moderate to severe inflammatory bowel disease who have failed to respond to current therapies.
In addition, Dr. Clarke is interested in exploring quality of life and nutrition counseling provided to patients with celiac disease.
Teaching and educational interests
Dr. Kofi Clarke is a facilitator for a hands-on simulation course for second-year medical students at Penn State College of Medicine and provides didactic and clinical teaching for gastroenterology trainees.
He has an added interest in guiding early learners on the value of clinical research and reviews abstracts for medical students and residents.
Dr. Clarke has a keen interest in graduate medical education in internal medicine. He previously served as a program director in the Internal Medicine Residency and was involved in evaluating feedback in smaller residency programs.
Clinical interests
Dr. Kofi Clarke's clinical interest is in luminal bowel disease. His main focus is inflammatory bowel disease, with a secondary interest in celiac disease. He directs Penn State Health's Celiac Clinic and is an active clinician at Penn State Health's IBD Center.
