    Dr. Kristina Newport works to improve care for people with serious illness by building programs and individual encounters to ensure medical care aligns with what is most important to patients and their families.

    Before coming to Penn State Health, she was the founding clinician of an outpatient palliative oncology clinic in Lancaster, Pa. She is now working to improve access to palliative care for all patients in Central Pennsylvania through growth in Penn State Health access as well as collaborations with community organizations via the Susquehanna Valley Palliative Care Coalition.

    Dr. Newport educates others on palliative care in her own institution and throughout the community, regionally and nationally.

    Dr. Kristina Newport is the founder of Oncologist in my Pocket, a training program for palliative care clinicians to provide upstream care to patients with cancer. This program began as a workshop at the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Annual Assembly from 2017 to 2019 and is now an independent educational program attracting participants from around the United States.

    The program prepares clinicians to competently meet American Society of Clinical Oncology guidelines to provide palliative care for all patients with advanced cancer within eight weeks of diagnosis.
