Research interests
Laura Critchfield, PA-C is currently studying advanced practice providers as they transition from graduate education to clinical practice in primary care. She has developed an onboarding program for advanced practice providers within the Department of Family and Community Medicine to assist with advanced practice provider support and mentorship. She is interested in understanding if a robust onboarding program and ongoing support assist with overall advanced practice provider vitality and retention.
Teaching and educational interests
Laura Critchfield, PA-C has experience with physician assistant, nurse practitioner, and medical student education. She is a course instructor for pediatrics for the Penn State College of Medicine Physician Assistant Program as well as an adviser and mentor to many physician assistant students. In addition, she is a clinical preceptor to physician assistant, nurse practitioner, and medical students, providing direct patient care experience for these learners.
Laura has created and teaches sessions on a monthly basis for advanced practice providers in the Department of Family and Community Medicine on a variety of topics, ranging from treatment of chronic conditions to education of learners. She has also led sessions on development and use of advanced practice providers for varied audiences, including faculty, other advanced practice providers, residents, and graduate students.
Clinical interests
Laura Critchfield, PA-C enjoys the full scope of family medicine in the outpatient clinical setting to patients of all ages and genders. She has a particular interest in providing preventative care for her patients.
