Dr. Lauren Forrest researches how suicide and eating disorders can be effectively predicted, treated, and prevented. In the U.S., more than
47,000 people die by suicide annually and eating disorders affect roughly 42 million people. The determinants of suicide and eating disorders
are complex. Dr. Forrest believes this complexity requires research that navigates between silos that often exist in clinical science. For
example, she researches suicide and eating disorders from a group level, a person-specific level, and among sexual minorities specifically.
She blends leading theories with advanced computational methods to predict suicide and eating disorder outcomes, yet also critically
evaluates whether these innovative methods have their intended impact on intervention and prevention efforts.
Dr. Lauren Forrest is a Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute KL2 Scholar (2022-2024). Her scholar project is “Personalized
assessment and prediction of short-term suicide risk factors for people living in rural areas.
