Research interests

Dr. Samantha Butts is a reproductive epidemiologist whose clinical research efforts have primarily focused on determinants of fertility treatment outcome, early pregnancy loss and reproductive aging.

Teaching and educational interests

Throughout her career, Dr. Samantha Butts has been actively involved in the clinical training of medical students, residents and fellows in reproduction and gynecology-related subject matter. She has participated in didactic education programs and has mentored numerous students, residents and fellows conducting clinical research in women’s health.

Before coming to Pen State, she was director of resident education in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at her previous institution. She has developed curricula using precision learning platforms to drive adaptive, mobile and efficient approaches to building knowledge in women's health and reproduction.

In addition to her programmatic efforts, she conducts research using data from the ACGME to both study the association between trainee factors and competency assessments using Milestone performance and to examine the association between Milestone performance in specific competencies and the outcomes achieved upon the transition to practice.
