    Research interests

    Dr. Timothy Kocher provides patient care to those who have cognitive and psychiatric symptoms of disorders affecting the brain. He utilizes cognitive and behavioral assessments and has research interest in improving these tools for diagnosis and management. He is interested in developing new ways to assess patients with memory and behavior disorders. He also explores ways in which these tools can be adapted to the inpatient setting to manage patients with delirium and encephalopathy. Dr. Kocher has incorporated clinical cases into his research and has co-authored a textbook chapter on delirium patients with brain cancer.

    Dr. Kocher educates primary care providers on the work-up and management of cognitive and psychiatric illnesses. He also has a community outreach presence.

    Clinical interests

    Dr. Timothy Kocher is board certified in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry through the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS). His clinical interests are positioned at the interface of psychiatry and neurology: conditions that affect the brain and behavior.

    Dr. Kocher’s expertise is in the work-up and management of cognitive and neuropsychiatric symptoms of neurological and psychiatric illnesses. His main clinical interests are mild cognitive impairment and dementia due to degenerative disorders. Dr. Kocher conducts a cognitive and neurobehavioral assessment to complement the history and physical exam to diagnose and treat these conditions. Providing education to both the patient and caregivers is also an important part of his clinical care. Other areas of clinical interest include delirium and encephalopathy, post-stroke neurobehavioral symptoms, schizophrenia, and mood disorders in older adults.
