    Research interests

    Since serving as primary investigator of the Pennsylvania Expanded HIV Testing initiative (PEHTI), Dr. Tonya Crook has remained interested in the spectrum of opportunities for HIV prevention in terms of early diagnosis, linkage and retention in care. As part of her clinical work and fellowship program director responsibilities, she is committed to facilitating the research and collaboration of learners.

    Teaching and educational interests

    Dr. Tonya Crook serves as the Program Director for the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Infectious Diseases (ID) Fellowship and coordinates the ID elective for Internal Medicine residents and medical students. Dr. Crook completed a post baccalaureate certificate in Educational Technology Integration through the Penn State World Campus and is interested in ways to improve clinician engagement in teaching and clinical research.

    Clinical interests

    Dr. Tonya Crook provides Infectious Diseases consultation in the inpatient and outpatient setting. In the outpatient setting, she works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide longitudinal care to patients living with HIV. In addition, she provides outpatient consultation for patients with confirmed or suspected complex infections. In the inpatient setting, Dr. Crook provides Infectious Diseases consultation as the attending for the ID teaching team. She has a career-long interest in the management of HIV and in the diagnosis and treatment of complex infections including endocarditis and tuberculosis. Since completing the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTMH), she has maintained a keen interest in evaluation of the returning traveler and infections more prevalent in tropical and sub-tropical regions.
