Description
The U.S. Navy is interested in developing optimized wire-fed directed energy deposition EBAM process for large-size, geometrically complex, high-criticality components for ALRE. The enabling technology should have the capability to create near-net fabrication, thereby reducing final machining time, raw material lead time, and material waste. This technology aims to improve sustainment by enabling the production of difficult-to-acquire parts or facilitating part repairs. To address this critical need, X-wave Innovations, Inc. (XII) teams up with Edison Welding Institute (EWI), proposes to develop a novel Process-Structure-Property Evaluation (PSPE) package for enabling large scale EBAM components fabrication parameter evaluation and component properties prediction. The PSPE technology will provide machine parameters recommendations for specific mechanical properties requirement yields to EBAM process. The PSPE technology will employ advanced machine learning algorithm to establish the PSP linkage for EBAM process. Upon completion, the PSPE technology is expected to be applicable for intelligent and efficient EBAM process in the manufacturing of large-scale, high-complexity, and high-properties structure. We will closely collaborate with our partners to actively transition and commercialize this technology for Navy engineering applications and industry software applications.
