Project Details
Description
In prior work the PI has developed a class of aromatic polyureas which show a large dielectric constant than expected. Modeling work by a collaborator suggested that the amorphous nature creates pockets of free volume that allow elastic motion of the dipoles even though the materials is well below the glass transition. In this work, this approach will be further pursued. A second area of focus is the origin of increased leakage current in many polymers above 100C even when the glass transition is above 200C. The PI will work on strategies to put trap states in the material with one approach being the use of metal oxide nanoparticle
