Description

In this project, an interdisciplinary team with expertise in plant science, weed science, pathology, entomology, precision agriculture, machine learning, and economics will train three PhD students to develop systematic solutions to address the challenges in tree fruit production using precision and AI tools. The objectives include:1) Recruit outstanding PhD fellows who are interested in interdisciplinary research related to precision agricultural tools and AI in tree fruit production systems, especially leverage existing connections with minority serving institutions.2) Provide effective academic advising, research training, and professional development to the cohort PhD students, including core thematic courses, AI/precision technology workshops, research seminars and symposium, and fellowship writing.3) Disseminate of project results and impacts through professional meetings, research and extension publications, and Penn State Extension events.
