A four year research program is offered to develop, calibrate, assess and apply Full Reynolds Stress Modeling (FRSM) to high Reynolds number (ReL = O[106-109]) flows of relevance to undersea platforms. The goal of this effort is to improve steady and unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) predictions for maneuvering vehicles in nonstratified and stratified environments. FRSMs carry the potential for capturing the physics of highly three-dimensional boundary layers and stratified hydrodynamic wake evolution, with significantly better pedigree than the eddy viscosity models that are used nearly universally in these flows.
