Description
High-Resolution Aerosol Jet Printing System for Soft Smart SkinsThis DURIP proposal seeks to purchase a high resolution, Aerosol Je t high-density (AJHD) printer for the development of soft smart skins in Prof. Cunjiang Yus Soft Electronics Laboratory at Univer sity of Houston. The requested AJHD-20UP printer will particularly augment the current ONR funded research project on developing ce phalopod inspired camouflage skins, as listed in the following. The camouflage skins are constructed in the format of an arrayed, p ixelated system. The individual pixels are soft electronics and optoelectronics devices, including elastic photodetectors (artific ial opsins), light emitting devices (artificial colorphores), and elastic transistors (interface electronics for pixels arrangement and read out). The AJHD printer will be critical and invaluable to fabricate these devices and forming integrated, pixelated camou flage skins. With the AJHD printer, each pixel of the camouflage skin can be as small as a few hundred m, which can significantly enhance the capability and quality of color sensing and adaptation. The multiple layered constructs of the pixels with complicated structrues can be easily achieved based on successive printing. The requested AJHD-20UP printer will be an invaluable and necessa ry equipment to achieve high resolution pixelated camouflage skin with high fidelity in color sensing, changing and adapting. Proj ect: Cephalopod inspired camouflage skins: adaptive color changing, pattern tuning and texture morphing (funded by ONR under the Yo ung Investigator Program) The AJHD-20UP printer will enable the ease and direct fabrication of pixelated camouflage skin of elasti c photodetectors, light emitting devices, and elastic transistors based on liquid and slurry inks.
