NRG Overall Component Abstract NRG Oncology (NRG) has made significant progress toward its goal of improving the lives of adults with certain non-hematologic malignancies through its clinical and translational research efforts. NRG's defined patient populations of interest - those with sex-specific malignancies and/or those with localized or locally advanced disease, are unique within the NCTN, constituting a large and relatively under-investigated cohort of cancer patients. Positioned to be the lead NCTN research organization for trials enrolling several patient cohorts, NRG's portfolio focuses on patients with gynecologic cancer, primary or secondary brain tumors, head and neck cancer, localized or locally advanced prostate cancer as well as breast cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, bladder cancer, or sarcoma. In these and other realms, NRG actively collaborates with other NCTN groups, diligently working to increase awareness of and participation in all NCTN trials. NRG's research accomplishments during the reporting period have been extraordinary. NRG members were responsible for over 35% of the 58,829 patients accrued to US-based NCTN adult group treatment trials during the period of March 1, 2019, through August 31, 2024 (15,310 NRG trial entries, 4,467 on other NCTN Group trials, and 1,015 on NCTN Precision Medicine trials). NRG-led trials accounted for nearly 30% of this accrual (15,310 entered by NRG members and 687 by other groups for a total of 15,997 enrollments). NRG members and trials contribute the largest accrual of any of the five NCTN groups. NRG published 385 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and presented 262 abstracts during this period, of which over 40 contain practice-changing or practice-defining observations. In addition, NRG collaborated with other NCTN groups on the publication of 74 additional manuscripts. To successfully fulfill its ambitious goal, NRG has seven cancer disease site committees, all with internationally recognized multi-disciplinary leadership and all with strong liaison representatives from NRG's seven scientific core committees. NRG committees were responsible for the activation of 52 new treatment trials during this period. There are five other protocol- generating committees, five oversight committees, and six administrative committees, all designed to lead and support critical areas of the group's research. NRG is organized such that the necessary operational efficiencies and internal peer review are in place to overcome barriers to conducting a broad portfolio of scientifically important and relevant clinical trials and to ensure appropriate enrollment to these trials.
