Description

THE INITIAL CYTHERIAN SURVEY OF FORESHOCK FLUCTUATIONS REQUIRED 3 MONTHS OF ANALYSIS MUCH OF WHICH INVOLVED LEARNING NEW ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES AND WRITING AND TESTING CODE FOR THE ANALYSIS. THUS FUTURE ANALYSIS WILL REQUIRE SIGNIFICANTLY LESS TIME TO PARAMETERIZE AND TABULATE THE PROPERTIES OF THE FORESHOCK FLUCTUATIONS. THERE WILL BE A SLIGHT OVERHEAD FOR LEARNING AND CODING TO INCORPORATE PARTICLE DATA FROM THESE SPACECRAFT BUT ALL THREE SPACECRAFT HAVE VERY SIMILAR INSTRUMENTATION MAKING ANY ANALYSIS CODE NEARLY UNIVERSAL. THUS THE PROPOSED TIMELINE OF THREE YEARS IS ENTIRELY REASONABLE AND APPROPRIATE. THE PROPOSED EFFORT IS A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT BETWEEN PENN STATE UNIVERSITY AND GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER TO SUPPORT THE GRADUATE STUDIES OF ALEXANDRA LEONTIRE BROSIUS. DR. WIL- SON WILL DIRECTLY SUPERVISE AND MENTOR ALEXANDRA LEONTIRE BROSIUS WITH CARRIE M. ANDERSON SUPPORTING THE EFFORT. DR. JAMES KASTING WILL SERVE AS THE ACADEMIC/DISSERTATION ADVISOR AND WILL SUPPORT BOTH RESEARCH EFFORTS AND CAREER PLANNING. ALEXANDRA WILL PERFORM THE BULK OF THE RESEARCH WITH GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT PRIMARILY FROM DR. WILSON.
