Workshop on Acoustic Transduction Materials and Devices

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The ferroelectrics group of the Materials Research Institute at The Pennsylvania State University has a long history in research sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). Much of this has focused over the years on development of new materials for transducers, as well as acoustic transducer design. For many years now, to facilitate communication across the ONR sponsored programs in these areas, along with the broader transducer community, Penn State has hosted a national meeting in this topic area with typical attendance hovering near 200. This has been a very valuable scientific meeting, with representatives attending from most of the major transducer groups in the U.S. and Canada. The attendance is typically ~20% international, with strong participation from Japan, Canada, and the UK. Due to ONR sponsorship, it has been possible to run this as an inexpensive, high quality meeting, which is widely described as being very valuable by the participants. Participation is by invitation only.
