N2 - Europium doped alkali halides, when irradiated by a XeF excimer laser, exhibit changes in their absorption spectra similar to those induced by ionizing radiation. Initial growth rates of the laser-induced absorption show a 3-photon absorption mechanism which, in turn, is used to address the nature of excited state absorption of europium in alkali halide hosts.
