Abstract
The microstructure of polar microdomains in PLZT has been investigated using transmission electron microscopy and the relationship between polar microdomains (α-phase state) and the presence of highly aligned, stable fringes was examined. Regular, stable fringes were observed within PLZT, but it was concluded that these arose as a result of the superposition of Pb-based particles upon the perovskite matrix and not as a result of polar microdomains in the ferroelectric phase.
