Abstract
Computer simulation has been combined with experimentation to examine the formation of metasomatic zoning. The contract interaction between quartz and brucite at 600°C and 1 kbar has been used to examine how a model based on reversible reactions can be used to predict the structure and dynamics of formation of the observed column. The column structure is closer to the solution obtained from the equilibrium form of the model, but the equilibrium and kinetic results converge as the process develops with the passage of time. -Journal summary
