Abstract
An optical multiaccess star network architecture using dense WDM and subcarrier multiplexing is proposed. The network uses a broadcasting/narrowcasting star coupler and is immune to laser beat interference. It can support hundreds of channels within the gain bandwidth of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. Laser frequency stabilization and calibration are easy to realize in this multiple-location network as the transmitter lasers are co-located in the central office. The scheme enables a group of users to share one transmitter laser.
