Abstract

Solar power has been the subject of extensive research recently. The boost converter is the main component of any solar power harvester. Coupled inductors have been utilized to increase and extend the voltage gain of the boost converter. This paper introduces a novel converter with double coupled inductors for low power Photo-Voltaic (PV) applications. The proposed topology improves the operating condition of the power harvesting during strong shading concurrently by improving the efficiency and output voltage. It operates with a higher voltage gains and efficiency concurrently at reduced solar irradiation in Continuous Current Mode (CCM). A prototype was successfully tested and an efficiency of 94 % was retained during an overcast with a single stage converter.
