Abstract
The development of polyphosphazene science and technology is traced from its beginnings in the 1960's to the present day, with a focus on synthesis methods, model compound research, and evolving studies in biomedicine, photonics, energy storage and generation, and aerospace materials. Emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship between molecular structure and properties and drawing lessons from this research that may apply to the challenges of the future.
