Abstract
A new ultrasonic guided wave technique is applied for damage detection and identification in an aircraft structure with the aid of a phased array transducer. Some portions of the dispersion curves are generated and used to identify discontinuities. Different portions of the dispersion curves are sensitive to different damage types. A sample problem of a repair patch adhesive bond cohesive and interfacial weakness situation is investigated. Transducer and instrumentation design principles are explained. The supporting instrumentation and the potential for field and in situ implementation are also provided.
