Abstract
Discusses evaluation of a prestressed grouted connection for steel tubulars in offshore structures. Small scale model tests investigated the shrinkage of the grout, initial creep in the grout annulus, plus longterm shrinkage and creep. Presents load slip curves obtained. Describes numerical modelling, outlining the concrete materials model used, and bond/slip treatment. Studies the effect of applied prestress and the effect of length/diameter ratio. Large scale model testing involved 2 control models, 4 pressure grout models and 2 expansive grout models. Experimental and numerical results indicate enhancement of the bond strength of grouted pile/sleeve connections by application of a radial prestressing force. Design recommendations are given.
