Abstract

Unrecognised oesophageal intubation is one of the most feared complication that can occur while attempting to secure the airway. In a prospective study of 100 patients, we could detect oesophageal intubation correctly in all, using a simple, indigenously made Oesophageal Detector Device. This device is a useful tool in the operating room, in locations like hospital wards, emergency rooms and ambulances, and also in patients with cardiac arrest. This device had a sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value of 100%.
