Abstract

A 64-item problem checklist used in a university counseling center was analyzed. Data were collected from closed client files. The problem checklist was analyzed in terms of (a) its factor structure and (b) the reliability of its resultant subscales. Principal components analysis revealed 10 underlying factors that accounted for 64.7% of the total variance. The analysis also indicated that the problem checklist could be reduced from 64 to 44 items and could reliably assess the ten factors.
