Abstract

A brief overview of the acid -interleaving coatings that are used in the flat-glass industry is provided with an emphasize on the characteristics of adipic, boric and citric acids. The physical and chemical adsorption of water are the first steps in the weathering and corrosion mechanism. The formation of silanols renders the surface more polar and can further enhance absorption, event condensation, of water on the surface. the practical elimination of surface weathering and staining is associated with acid interleave coatings is to deposit polymer beads and a finely divided acid powder as a particulate coating on the top-side surface of freshly manufactured float-glass. The increased use of float glass as a substrate for passive and active thin-film coatings has demanded more stringent control of the surface and its cleanliness.
