Abstract
Acoustic Emission(AE) has been measured in piezoelectric/electrostrictive actuators. Usual unipolar driving does not generate strong AE in the ceramic actuators. After suffering from thermal shock, the sample becomes to reveal the AE signal. These results suggest that the AE signal is a good indication to predict electrical/mechanical breakdown of the ceramic actuators.
