Abstract

The major goal of this investigation was to obtain detailed experimental data on the effects of acoustic excitation on the mixing of heated jets with the surrounding air. To determine the extent of the available information on experiments and theories dealing with the effects of acoustic excitation on hot jet mixing, an extensive literature survey was conducted at the outset of this program. Based on the information gathered in the literature survey, a technical approach was developed to carry out a systematic set of flowfield measurements and flow visualization for a broad range of jet operating and flow excitation conditions.
