Abstract

Helicopter noise reduction is critical for both military and civilian rotorcraft and numerous research efforts are underway to provide an understanding of the noise mechanisms and the potential for noise reduction. These include extensive wind tunnel studies as well as a large variety of computational simulation and prediction efforts. This paper discusses ongoing acoustics research from the previous few years in academia, industry and at government labs. The information included in the review came from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the Pennsylvania State University, Deutsche Forschungsantalt für Luft- and Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA), Office of National d'Étudies et de Recherches Aérospatiales (ONERA) and Bell Helicopter.
