Abstract
Application of decision feedback intersymbol-interference cancellation to noisy multipath fading channels is considered. Minimum mean-square error (MMSE) performance relative to an ideal decision feedback equalizer (IDFE) is calculated as a function of the fade depth and fade notch offset multipath fading parameters. The results indicate that, under deep fades, in a noisy channel, the canceler outperforms an IDFE by about 2 dB. Also, an MMSE nearly equal to that of the matched filter bound is achievable with three noncausal taps.
