Abstract
There have been tremendous efforts since the early days of development of unconventional resources to understand rock mechanical properties and its impact on developing these new resources. Sometimes these efforts were raising with changes in practice like smaller spacings or simply raised as oil and gas industry were moving to new basins with different rock properties. In this chapter, we briefly review some of these efforts especially the ones that are still challenging operators in different areas. It is notable that in several cases, these geomechanical challenges have put the whole economy of these projects at risk.
