Abstract
A study was initiated to characterize the nanoscale distribution of the hot-end coating over the range of coverage with optimal system performance. The samples used include commercial glass containers with hot-end coatings applied on-line to intentionally vary the coating coverage. Results indicate that there are two unique features of hot-end coatings in the optimum range of 30-50 CTU: complete coverage of the glass surface by the tin-oxide, and the approx. 20 times increase in roughness.
