Abstract
An appraisal of the diagnoses and prescription for Africa's food crisis by two contending predominant general theories of development shows that one of the theories provides insufficient explanation while the other provides adequate explanation. The prescriptions provided by both theories are, however, equally unsatisfactory leaving Africa's food crisis a major challenge to existing development theories. -Author
