Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of AI aesthetics and AI ethics to consider the ways in which humans and machines are able to interface and collaborate based on intentionality to support the ongoing practice of artistry. It discusses the implications of artificial intelligence’s ability to perform selected creative tasks considered exceptional for humans, which lead to questions such as: Can AI make art? If so, can a smart algorithm be considered a type of author? If AI can perform increasingly complex tasks previously only performed by humans, then what can humans do once even creativity is not only optimized but fully achievable with AI? To engage with these and other related questions, the chapter focuses on our economic and cultural speed of production dependent upon AI implementation and how it, in turn, redefines aesthetics and ethics in relation to art and artistry.
