Abstract

The air transportation industry has experienced various new developments in the air transportation sector including modernization efforts and plans to increase capacity. The Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) JPDO memorandum of understanding (MOU) is signed, 4D weather functional requirements have been deployed, and the the integrated work plan is released. An increase in fuel prices has led airlines towards cost-cutting measures, charging for the first checked bag, and elimination of free in-flight food. In an another development, A380 has entered service in October 2007 and has completed more than 1,000 flights with Singapore Airlines. ITT is awarded $207 million to implement the first phase of the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) system. The FAA issued an NPRM that would institute slot auctions at New York's JFK International Airport and New Jersey's Newark International Airport.
