N1 - Funding Information: After receipt of funding, the Center was established in July 2000. It is funded in part by the 5 year Partnership in Information and Communication (PIC) award from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB). The Center's goal is to conduct and promote research efforts in pediatric surgery and to define evidence-based guidelines through outcomes assessment. The APSA Outcomes Center is a nationally centralized data and com- munication hub for a network of participating study centers, APSA members, and volunteers across the United States. It currently is housed in Chicago at the American College of Surgeons headquarters. A Steering Committee plans and coordinates the scope of work for the MCHB PIC award. The goal of this specific award is to develop national, evidence-based quality measures applicable across the continuum of care for certain types of traumatic injury in children. The specific objectives are listed in Table 1. The first project was to define guidelines for the care of children after blunt liver or splenic injury. A project looking at the functional outcomes of children after pelvic fracture currently is underway, and a clinical trial to compare burn wound coverage materials is being organized. The guideline development process used by the Steering Committee is outlined in Table 2. Currently, the center is staffed by 2 individuals who manage the daily operations and provide logistical support to the Steering Committee, with oversight by the President of APSA and its Board of Governors. The staffs capabilities include funding identification, project coordination, grant writing, database design/management, data analysis, and data dissemination. A key component of the center has been the development of the APSA outcomes website (www.eapsa.org/outcomes/
