Abstract
Ammonia losses were evaluated for sprinkler irrigation of swine lagoon effluent in forest and open field environments in two South Carolina locations. Irrigation line and ground samples where collected and differences in ammonium concentration where measured as an estimate of volatilization. Uncertainty analysis is reported as a main factor in estimating losses. Observed volatilization losses were within experimental error for both locations therefore the data do not support the inclusion of irrigation losses in nutrient management calculations.
