Abstract

LVAD is one possible alternative to a heart transplant for a patient with left ventricle failure. The performance of LVAD controller is critical for LVAD design. An electrical analog is used to model cardiovascular system with different levels of left ventricular failure and under different emotional and dynamic conditions. A model reference adaptive LVAD controller is developed based on this model. Simulation results show that the adaptive controller can achieve good tracking performance and good disturbance rejection even with large system parameters fluctuation.
