title = "Analysis of caching performance in multimedia servers",
abstract = "The design of multimedia servers faces significant challenges to support large numbers of concurrent customers because multimedia data require real-time playback and high transfer rates. These requirements impose heavy burdens on the underlying storage subsystems and lead to rapid consumptions of network bandwidth. Interval caching is an efficient way to reduce the disk bandwidth requirements in multimedia servers. It can also be applied in conjunction with other techniques in order to reduce the required network bandwidth as well as to further reduce the disk bandwidth requirements. This paper presents a validated analytical model for interval caching and then uses the model to investigate the impacts of various system and workload parameters.",
