Abstract
This paper presents an analytical basis to the theory of slotting, so that time-slotting scales can be designed and their characteristics analyzed according to a priori requirements. So as to provide a practical framework for time-slotting, the concepts of Comparative Estimating are reviewed and the types of error which may result from setting time standards by this technique are identified. The basic, generalized equations which describe these errors are stated and their construction is outlined. These equations, as they relate to a log-normal distribution, and a computer program to make the associated calculations are given. An actual time-slotting scale is designed and analyzed to illustrate the method.
