Abstract
A high pressure injection system was mounted on the bale chamber of a rectangular-type baler to inject liquid anhydrous ammonia into baled forage. Ammoniation of high moisture alfalfa hay reduced storage temperature, increased crude protein and normally improved visual appearance of the hay. When wrapped in plastic, the dry matter loss of ammoniated hay was similar to that of dry hay.
