Application of clam shells in organic ceramic friction materials

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Organic ceramic friction materials containing clam shells have been prepared using a phenolic resin as a matrix, magnesium oxide as a curing accelerator, wollastonite as a reinforcing fiber, clam shells, zircon, barite and potassium titanate as fillers, graphite as a solid lubricant and vermiculite as a noise reduction agent. The friction performance of the composites was tested by a Chase procedure and evaluated by an extension method. The results showed that clam shells can be employed in organic ceramic friction materials.
