Application of semantic web technology to scheduling interoperability

Abstract

This paper explores how Semantic Web technology can be utilized to solve scheduling interoperability problems. Semantic Web has become an important issue in the WWW community in recent years with the goal to make resources on the Web machine-readable. Semantic web technology has evolved from Web applications more general information technology applications arena. As globalization and collaboration is becoming an increasing trend in today's business environment it is necessary to facilitate software systems to be interoperable with each other within an organization and across different organizations. Toward this issue, we briefly review the major components of the Semantic Web technology. Based on this review, an example is presented for motivating the scheduling interoperability issue and finally, we discuss a potential solution approach to by leveraging the Semantic Web technology.
