Abstract
Asthma is the most common chronic illness of childhood, impacting over five million individuals nationwide. Based on prevalence, it is reasonable to assume that every healthcare practitioner working with children will encounter an asthmatic during their career. This chapter will present three cases to demonstrate important components of asthma care and the ways an asthmatic may present. While not all encompassing, the efficient and appropriate use of an Asthma Action Plan (AAP) is recommended by the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program which have been shown to improve asthma related outcomes and are a component of high quality asthma care [1].
